The Lightning took on the Montreal Canadiens in their first game back from the Christmas break. The Lightning played a great overall game and got off to just the start they wanted after having nearly a week off for the Christmas break
Hot Start
Lightning got off to a hot start in the first. After losing two straight games, the Lightning needed to get off on the right foot. That is exactly what they did, creating chances by playing fast and keeping the puck in the offensive zone. The Lightning would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to their great play and Vasilevskiy doing what he does best.
While Montreal isn't the best team, this kind of start was still important to get their confidence back. After taking nearly a week off, a start like this can really help get the team going quickly, and the season will only go faster as we enter the new year.
Brayden Point
Point leads the team in goals so far this year, and he scored again tonite. Point made yet another unbelievable move to get through four Montreal defenders. His speed and skill have been unmatched this season. Point is a front-runner for the Lightning's MVP, and that's hard to do with so many other stars on the roster.
Penalties
The Lightning played a good game overall, but one flaw in their game was the penalties. The Lightning took six total penalties in the game, with Montreal getting five power plays. Luckily the Lightning PK was fantastic and went 5 for 5 on the kill.
Despite the success of the PK, this is something the Lightning will want to keep their eye on, as giving other teams five different power plays might not work out for them as it did in this one. Luckily it is an easy fix, especially stopping penalties like too many men.

Three Stars
1. Point (2G)
2. Vasilevskiy (25SV)
3. Hedman (2A)
The Lightning's next game will be against the New York Rangers on Thursday, December 28th, at 7 PM ET.
