The Tampa Bay Lightning announced they have signed forward Mikey Eyssimont to a two-year, one-way contract valued at $1.6 million ($800K average annual value). Eyssimont was scheduled to become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Eyssimont was acquired by the Lightning on March 1, from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forward Vladislav Namestnikov. During the regular season, Eyssimont played in 15 games, recording a goal and an assist. He also slotted into the Lightning's game one lineup against Toronto in the first round, and was knocked out of that game in the second period after a big hit from Leafs' defender Jake McCabe. Eyssimont would sit the next three games with "concussion-like symptoms", before returning to the lineup in games five and six, putting up a goal and the game-winning assist in the Lightning's game five victory.
Eyssimont also impressed fans with his quickness and ability to create turnovers, leading to a multitude of opportunities for his linemates.
With question marks surrounding the 2023-24 status of forwards Pierre-Édouard Bellemare, Corey Perry, and Alex Killorn, all scheduled to be unrestricted free agents on July 1, Eyssimont seems to have a comfortable place in next year's starting lineup.
The Lightning currently have $8.475 million in cap space after this signing, if rumors of the cap limit being $83.5M are true. Currently, their roster sits at eight forwards, seven defenders, and one goaltender.
