The Tampa Bay Lightning looked to continue their two-game winning streak against the league-leading Boston Bruins, and here is how they stacked up.
Hagel-Point-Kucherov
Stamkos-Cirelli-Paul
Jeannot-Motte-Eyssimont
Koepke-Glendening-Watson
Hedman-Perbix
Sergachev-Cernak
de Haan-Raddysh
Johansson
Here are the biggest takeaways from the Lightning's 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
Overtime
After a fantastic overtime against the Bruins, the Lightning took a small step backward as they could not get the job done against the Jets. While the Lightning were able to get opportunities, they had way too many turnovers, with the last one leading to the game-winning goal.
Overall the Lightning are 1-11 since last year in overtime games. The good news, though, is there is no 3-on-3 in the playoffs.
Brandon Hagel
Hagel has arguably been one of the best players on the Lightning this year. He has been a leader (even wearing the A for a game) and an elite player. Hagel has especially excelled on breakaway attempts. While he was not able to capitalize tonight, his name is constantly said on the broadcast since he is always around the puck and creating great chances. Hagel has a chance at being one of the top players for the Lightning.
Steven Stamkos
Stamkos has played so well over the past few games. He scored the game-tying goal with 4.8 seconds left and scored again tonight to get the Lightning on the board. Even with all the drama surrounding his contract situation Stamkos has stepped up and scored some clutch goals for the Lightning. If the Captain can continue to improve his game and keep the Lightning on an upward trajectory with Vasilevskiy nearing return... who knows what this team can accomplish.
Final thoughts
Overall, it was a well-played game by the Lightning. Things just did not go their way in overtime. Stamkos and Point scored the goals, but the offense had a lot of good opportunities. Johansson was once again solid in the net, keeping the Lightning in this game to even get a point in overtime. Still a long way to go, but the Lightning have continued to improve their game over the last week.
