The Lightning took on the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night as they looked to bounce back from a loss to Minnesota. Andrei Vasilevskiy would be back between the pipes for this one after missing the last game due to illness. Victor Hedman would also miss this game as he had returned home to Tampa with his wife expecting their second child. Here are a few things we noticed from each period.

1st Period

It was a very fast-paced first, as the game would go nearly 10 minutes without a whistle. Both teams were creating chances, but the Lightning had the shot advantage. Eventually, it would be Anothony Cirelli who would get a pass from Stamkos and have a wide-open net to make it 1-0.

It was a solid period for the Lightning as they were able to create chances, score, and kill off a penalty. However, the Jets would tie this game late in the first off a quick shot from Kyle Connor.

2nd Period

It was a period riddled with penalties, and it put a dent in the Lightning's play. While they did take an initial 2-1 lead, a 5-on-3 disadvantage led to the Jets tying the game at two. The Lightning penalty kill has been good over the last few months. However because of all the penalties the Lightning have taken, it has made it more difficult for the PK unit to be effective every single time.

3rd Period

The Lightning again got into major penalty trouble giving the Jets a second 5-on-3. The Jets would eventually convert on the two-man advantage giving them the lead. The Lightning had played a decent game 5-on-5, but the penalties were really costing them in this one.

There were plenty of chances to tie this game late, but the Lightning started to give up odd-man rushes with the defensemen pushing up on the plays. The Lightning would get one last chance on the power play late but ultimately drop this game to the Jets.

Three Stars

1. Dubois (2G)

2. Morrissey (3A)

3. Cirelli (1G,1A)

The Lightning's next game will be against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, January 10th, at 7:00 PM ET.
