Here are the biggest takeaways from the Lightning's 6-0 shutout win over the San Jose Sharks in a dominant game.
Johansson
There were a lot of questions surrounding Jonas Johansson at the start of the season. He has answered all of them as he picked up his second shutout in back-to-back games. Johansson was not contested much but, when called upon, was able to make the needed stops.
Johansson continues to impress and has been calm in the net. A lot of credit should go to Lightning goaltending coach Frantz Jean, who has been working with Johansson. If JJ can continue to play like he is, the Lightning might have one of the best goaltending duos they have had when Vasilevskiy returns.
Offense
The offense stayed hot tonight, with multiple guys getting on the score sheet. Brayden Point had multiple good looks but got back on the scoresheet. Mikey Eyssimont, who was all over the ice, got a goal, and Luke Glendening got his first as a Bolt.
The Sharks were leaving multiple Lightning players wide open on the ice, and the Lightning took advantage of it. The offense had a good balance of taking shots and making the extra pass when needed. This can be the type of game that gets a lot of guys going.
Defense
The defense has been the number one issue for the Lightning this season, but in their last two games, they have surrendered zero goals to the opposition. The Lightning held the Sharks to just 23 shots. Only five of those shots were high-danger chances. Again, while this game was against one of the worst teams in the NHL, it was nice to see the defense play well after what was a rocky start.
Final thoughts
Just a dominant game from the Lightning in every aspect. Johansson, with back-to-back shutouts and the defense, held the Sharks to just 23 shots. Yes, it was against the Sharks, but it's just what the Lightning needed to get things rolling.
