The Lightning did not play the game they wanted but they found a way to battle back . Here are three things we noticed from the game.
Elliott
Brian Elliott has been excellent all season long. Coming into tonight's game, Elliott held a record of 19-4-2 against the Sabers. While he did make a few nice saves early on in this game, it has been a tough night overall. Elliott struggled controlling rebounds and seeing the puck cleanly. The Sabers would go on to put up five goals against the veteran goaltender, and it was a rare off night for Elliott. He would go on to make a few key saves in overtime, though, to help the Lightning get the win.
Power play.
The Lightning power play had a lot of issues at the beginning of the season, and Jon Cooper would have to get out the line blender. Since the changes have been made, the power play has improved, and it was near-perfect tonight.
With Hagel and Sergachev now on PP1, not only has it given both lines with some big threats, the puck movement has improved drastically. While there are still some signs of overpassing, there is a clear difference from where they started.
All Offense
Hagel, Stamkos, Kucherov, Point and Sergachev all had multi point games. The Lightning offense came through when they needed it most. This team has the ability to score goal after goal when given a chance, which is great. Stamkos is continuing his great play from last season and is now just two points away from 1,000.
Would defiantly like to see the defense improve over the next few games to give the Lightning a more complete game. Part of this issue is the Lighting have had to constantly rotate guys in and out due to injuries, so no one can build good chemistry.
