The Lightning faced off against the Boston Bruins after coming off a huge 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. The Bolts would look to gain two big points and jump the Bruins in the standings. Here are a few things we noticed from the Lightning's 4-1 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Too Many Passes

Early in this game, the Lightning struggled largely due to overpassing. on multiple occasions, especially on the power play, which went 1/4 in the game, the Lightning tried to make an extra pass and lost possession of the puck. This continued for a large part of the game untill later in the second period.

The Lightning would finish the game with 31 shots on goal, which is good, but there were too many missed opportunities early in the game. These early chances can be crucial for momentum and when there may not be many more opportunities later in the game.

Penalty Kill

While the power play was unable to get much going, the penalty kill was fantastic. The PK finished this game going 2/2 and scoring one shorthanded goal. Brandon Hagel and Anthony Cirelli continue to be a fantastic duo. Even after Hagel missed wide on his shot, Cirelli was right there to follow it up with a goal. This was the 8th shorthanded goal for the Lightning this season. The Penalty kill while off and on this season seems to be finding its grove. When they are playing well, they are able to limit rebounds and force shots from the outside while creating chances of their own. More importantly, the PK did not have to spend a lot of time out on the ice, never giving the Bruns a chance to make adjustments.

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Vasilevskiy has been playing really well over the last few games, and he was again big in this one, keeping this game scoreless early. The Lightning needed to get the game's first goal on a night when there were a lot of Bruins fans ready to have something to cheer about. But thanks to Vasilevskiy making the big saves, the Bruins never got that chance, and the Lightning struck first.

Next, the Lightning will head out for a short road trip starting off against the New Jersey Devils in the first half of a back-to back. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM EST on Saturday.
